The "Super-Natural" Science Behind Avocado Magic

Recent scientific research shows that avocado oil protects against damage to cellular mitochondria, the deep heart of human cells, where energy is produced and cellular regeneration takes place.  The antioxidants in fruits and vegetables, while also known to have protective benefits, cannot penetrate the cell in the same way as fatty acids and therefore don’t provide this essential mitochondrial protection.  And, there is a lot more evidence of the avocado's healthful properties.

Other research demonstrates how unique avocado oil is.  It is one of the few oils NOT pressed from oil-rich seeds, but derived from the flesh of the fruit of the avocado tree, Persea gratissima or Persea americana.  Avocado oil, which is similar in composition to olive oil, is higher in antioxidants as well as being rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B5 (pantothenic acid), as well as vitamins D and E, protein, lecithin and fatty acids, which have healing and regenerating qualities.  In addition, avocados contain plant pigments that further inhibit oxidation.

The fats of this fruit are truly unique and include phytosterols - plant hormones such as beta-sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol - that help keep inflammation under control.  Avocados also contain polyhydroxylated fatty alcohols (PFAs).  Widely present in ocean plants, PFAs are much less common among land plants, further distinguishing avocados for their health-related properties.

In addition, avocados contain a very high amount of oleic acid, the main fatty acid found in olive oil.  In fact, over half of the total fat in avocado is provided in the form of oleic acid, which can increase the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients like carotenoids.

The most popular "old-school" lip balms are derived from petroleum by-products and waxes.  They simply coat the surface of the lips with a thin film that has to be re-applied often to be effective.  In contrast, Avocado Magic contains only natural, organic oils, which can penetrate to the cellular level of the skin, offering lasting protection against drying and cracking.
